Immediate dentures are not custom-fit to the mouth. As a result, they may or may not fit perfectly. We put immediate dentures in place on the same day that your teeth are extracted. Immediate dentures help to keep your gums healthy while your mouth heals from the extraction.
Immediate Dentures
Sometimes, following unavoidable circumstances, you may need to get all your remaining teeth extracted. Immediate dentures often provide a solution in such situations.
Our denturists will take impressions and measurements to fabricate your dentures prior to the extraction surgery by the dentist. At your extraction appointment, your immediate dentures are placed right away, avoiding the embarrassment of having no teeth during your healing period.
During the healing period, post-operative instructions are given by your denturists that are to be followed carefully. As your gums and bone are reduced to a much smaller size following the closing of the tooth sockets, regular checkups and maintenance are required to ensure ideal healing. Temporary linings (tissue conditioners) will be required to ensure a positive fit. This procedure may be repeated a number of times based on your physiological rate of healing. At the completion of the healing period (usually 6 - 8 months), a final fitting (permanent reline/rebase) or a new denture may be constructed to ensure a comfortable and exact fit.
Post-immediate Dentures
Post-immediate dentures are closer to standard dentures in terms of fit and fabrication. After a minimum of 2-3 weeks of healing from your extractions and your gums have healed enough to take impressions, your dentures can begin being fabricated by our denture specialists. The decision to acquire immediate or post-immediate dentures is usually unique to your particular situation.
